Here is another one of my summer projects I promised to share with you: the Banana Skirt! I made this skirt while I was on vacation in a hut in Norway, with little to no sewing equipment, far away from fabric and notions stores but with a strong urge to make something. So I converted one of my grandma's old tablecloths into a very, very simple summer skirt.
I cut out a rectangle for a waistband and a huge rectangle for the skirt part and gathered the skirt into the waistband. I made the waistband stronger by cutting two layers of fabric since I had no interfacing at hand. I had no zipper so I used some snap buttons I found in my grandma's sewing box for the side closure.
The skirt was a very quick and satisfying project. I didn't even need to hem it as I cut it so the original hem of the tablecloth became the hem of my skirt. Yeah!
